Direct Service Providers

Our Role

Direct Service Provider: In-Home Care duties and responsibilities


Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are people who work directly with people with physical disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities with the aim of assisting the individual to become integrated into his/her community or the least restrictive environment.


Direct Support Professional provide:

  • Services that assist individuals  in a group home, home-like settings
  • They have communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel
  • Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Perform personal care tasks, including assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks
  • Fosters positive relationships between caretakers and individuals served
  • Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment
  • Reminds and assists clients with self-administration of medications
  • Encourages self-help activities
  • Perform home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning
  • Assist in planning of  meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals and clean-up
